Having trouble sending email

You need to make sure “My outgoing server requires authentication” is enabled. To do so follow these instructions:

If using Outlook Express:

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Click on “Tools” up on the menu bar
  3. Click on “Accounts” in the drop-down menu
  4. Double click the email account “mail.hometowncable.net” or whatever your Hometown account is
  5. Click on the “Servers” tab
  6. Put a check mark in the box at the bottom next to “My server requires authentication”
  7. Click OK
  8. Click Close
  9. Click Send/Recv

If using Microsoft Outlook:

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook
  2. Click on “Tools” up in the menu bar
  3. Click on “Account Settings”
  4. *You may have to click on “View or change existing email accounts”
  5. Select the mail account “mail.hometowncable.net” or whatever your Hometown account is
  6. Click the “Change” button
  7. Click on the “More Settings” button in the bottom right-hand corner
  8. Click the “Outgoing Server” tab
  9. Make sure “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” has a checkmark in the box
  10. Make sure “Use same settings as my incoming mail server” is selected
  11. Click Ok
  12. Click Next
  13. Click Finish
  14. Click Send/Receive

If using MacMail:

  1. Open MacMail
  2. Go to "Mail"
  3. Click "Preferences"
  4. Select the email account and choose "Edit Account"
  5. Click the "Account Information" tab
  6. Click "Options"
  7. Beside "Authentication" select "Password"
  8. Click Ok
