Managing Spam

Hometown Cable processes all incoming messages through our spam filter to reduce the amount of spam, junk, and viruses delivered to our users. When the spam filter detects a suspicious message, it quarantines the message. By default, each email account receives a Spam Digest once a day containing the quarantined messages from the previous day. You WILL NOT receive a Spam Digest if you have no messages in the quarantine.

Viewing spam messages from the Spam Digest

You may view your quarantined items directly from your Spam Digest by clicking the "View" link next to the message. If you want to whitelist the sender or domain, check the box next to "Add user@domain.com to your whitelist" or "Add domain.com to your whitelist." Then, click the "Release" button. If you would just like to release the message once, do not check any of the boxes, and click the "Release" button. The message will now be delivered to your inbox.

Viewing spam messages from the Personal Dashboard

To view your quarantined items from your Personal Dashboard, login to your Personal Dashboard. Once logged in, click the Quarantine link. Select the period you would like to view quarantined items from, and then click "Find". Put a check by each message you would like to view. Then, click the "View" button. At the bottom of each previewed message, select any options you would like to do with the message. Once you are finished, click the "Release" button. The message(s) will now be released to your inbox.

How do I configure my Personal Dashboard?

The Spam Digest contains a link to your Personal Dashboard. Clicking on the link to the Personal Dashboard will automatically log you into your account. You may change any of your spam filtering preferences with the Personal Dashboard.

To manually login to your Personal Dashboard, click on this link: Personal Dashboard. If this is your first time logging in, you will have to sign up for an account. When signing up, enter in your email address (user@hometowncable.net). Then, create a password for your Personal Dashboard.

What is the blacklist?

The blacklist is for email addresses that are continually sending you unwanted email. When you add an entry to the blacklist, the message is rejected. The message WILL NOT be saved on any of our servers. To add someone to the blacklist, you may add their email address (ex: user@domain.com), domain (ex: domain.com), or IP address (ex: 123.123.123.123).
